Diaper rash is a very common malady among children, especially new born babies as their skin is still quite sensitive. If you notice any recurring redness in your child's rear, you might want to take immediate action to prevent it from worsening because the discomfort that comes with diaper rash will cause him or her to become grumpy and unsettled for longer periods of time.
Rashes from diapers can be prevented. In fact, here are some of the things that would help your baby become comfortable and allow him or her to sleep soundly at night:
- Always check if the diaper is already full. Babies pee a lot especially right after feeding time which is why you have to change diapers often as well.
- Powder your kid's bottom after bathing to prevent sweating. Urine mixed with sweat is not at all a healthy combination.
- Always have a health supply of baby wipes so you will have something to use for wiping off solid waste from your baby's butt. If at all possible, choose the kind that has antibacterial quality.
- Buy diapers that are gentle on the skin. Not all diapers are the same and there is nothing wise about cutting corners by purchasing very cheap ones that easily break or sag.
- Wash your kid’s buttocks with a mild cleanser every time you bathe him or her. After which, make sure that you pat (not rub) it dry.
- Put on petroleum jelly when you notice light redness to prevent it from getting worse.
Diaper rash can become a major inconvenience for parents and a really uncomfortable skin condition for children. Preventing this from occurring is a wiser move than having to find ways on curing it. Simple vigilance and attentive parenting is in order.
