 BEST Choice for Diapering (Better than All-In-Ones) Mar 28, 2011

I am an Advanced Maternal Age mom who did LOTS of research on highest absorbency, trimmest fit, and most thrifty options for diapering. Nearly every mom friend (mom's club and La Leche) uses all-in-one's or some derivative (and have complaint, in one of my three criteria, with their choice). We started our 1st child with disposable thinking they would be 'more convenient' and had 'blow outs' up the back and sides. We found these OsoCozy prefolds meet our criteria above. I purchased no pill fleece as liners (cut into rectangles), snappis, and cute diaper covers (Thirsties). For our newborn we use disposable at night (to avoid changing her never ending liquid in-out) - and these cloth w/cover overnight for our toddler (without leaking incident). They've not stained and have held up to hundreds of washes.

I recently began using cloth diapers for my 11 month old, 23 pound son. I ordered a package of these Osocozy size 2 diapers, and a package of Bummis Organic Cotton prefold diapers, size two. I washed them together, and honestly, I can't tell which one is which. They are both the same size after washing. Both brands are soft and absorbent, after several washings as the seller suggests. I'm very pleased with both, but I will probably be ordering another package of the Osocozy diapers, since they were cheaper than the Bummis brand. I've been using them with the Thirsties duo wrap with snaps.

If you're like me and not using these prefolds as pin-style diapers and just buying them as diaper liners for your diaper wraps/AIO's the size 2 prefold is large enough to cut in half! so each prefold essentially equals 2 diapers! so instead of six you're basically getting 12! totally worth it!

My daughter has been in Seventh Generation disposable diapers since she was born (with a temporary stint in Earth's Best). I originally wanted to use cloth diapers, but everyone talked me out of it. My daughter is now six months old (just under 14 pounds and about 27" tall), and I am tired of her permanent diaper rash. I change her every two hours like clockwork. We have tried EVERYTHING! Her skin is so sensitive and she has had allergic reactions to almost every cream I have tried. Well, I got these in the mail yesterday evening (along with a Thirsties Duo Wrap and three Snappis). I spent all last night prewashing these to get them ready. Today, I tried one out for the first time.
I used a trifold and just let this lay in the Thirsties cover (size 2). I'm sure this will not work overnight, but my daughter had just woken up, was squirmy, and wanted to eat. Less than two hours later (she was in her Go Pod), she was grunting and making weird faces, so I took her into the nursery to change her.
First off, her clothes were dry. This shocked me. I'm so used to her diapers leaking all the time. I figured that the trifold just laying in the cover wouldn't do much, but I was wrong. Next, I noticed that the prefold was SOAKED all the way through from top to bottom. However, my baby's skin was nearly dry! I only had to use one wipe for the first time ever. Finally, her diaper rash was completely gone!
For anyone worried that prefolds will limit your child's movement, I have included a video of my six-month-old, who has just started learning to crawl in the past couple of weeks. In case you are wondering, I folded the diaper into a modified newspaper fold (YouTube: "How to fold a cloth diaper") and used a Snappi with the Thirsties size 2 Duo Wrap on top. Compared to when she was in disposables, I do not see any difference in her crawling technique.
I am convinced that switching to cloth diapers is going to be the best thing for my daughter. I promise to update this in a couple of weeks when I've had some more experience, different products to compare with these prefolds, and my routine/method down pat.
Update:
I still love these prefolds! We still haven't had any leaks, even after 12 hours overnight!
However, we have had to stop using cloth diapers overnight. Due to how long my daughter sleeps, she keeps getting a yeast rash at night. (Yes, we tried using disposable liners to keep the moisture off her skin.) We, now, use disposable diapers (back to Seventh Gen) at night so that we are able to apply a prescription antifungal ointment. (Yes, they still leak.) I know that we could use liners to protect the diapers from the ointment, but I don't want to risk ruining the diapers.
Other than that, these prefolds are great. I also purchased a pack of OsoCozy 6 Pack Birdseye Flat Unbleached Diapers. Before we had to stop using cloth diapers at night, we used these flats as boosters. They worked great. The flats also work well, in place of the prefolds, with a hemp insert if you would like a trimmer fit for outings.

We have been using these size 1 prefolds since our baby was 8 weeks old (about 10 lbs). We fold them in thirds and place (without pinning) in a diaper cover (we use these covers Bummis Super Brite Diaper Cover, Green, 8-16 Pounds). These prefolds had to be folded in thirds perpendicular to the prefold seams (to make them a bit smaller) when our baby was wearing size small diaper covers. Now that he wears medium diaper covers, they can be folded the regular way and they fit great. They're super absorbent and they have not stained a bit. What a great value -- we purchased 5 packs of size 1 prefolds (for a total of 30)and are still using them 11 months later! No plans to buy the next size up as of yet!
